Morning,

And breathe …

Labour's conference came to a close last night with Jeremy Corbyn's speech roundly praised in the hall.

But it was always certain to be lapped up by his adoring fans packed into the Liverpool venue.

This was his big opportunity to speak to the millions of ordinary Brits he needs to win over if he is to stand any chance of a realistic tilt at No 10.

The speech wasn't terrible at all – certainly a huge improvement on last year.

And it included several interesting policy ideas.

But it was obviously aimed at those disciples whose support he already enjoys – and the warring MPs he wants back in the fold.

It was a huge opportunity to speak to the wider country, and he didn't take it.

Read Mirror political editor Jason Beattie's verdict here.

The biggest highlight of Labour conference is always the Mirror party.

With a Beatles tribute band, a boxing machine and a polar bear, this year was no exception. And yes, there are pictures.

The window between the Labour and Tory conferences means the agenda briefly switches back to Brexit today.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has just been on the radio warning it will be "impossible" for exit talks to result in a deal which offers the UK more rights than others outside the EU.

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox – whose unusual negotiating strategy seems to involve trying to upset company bosses – will face awkward questions when he speaks in Manchester mid-morning.

Dr Fox is delivering a speech on “Britain and the world: the golden opportunity for free trade”.

But he needs to have answers to the growing chorus of warnings from the continent.
